What is the Sweeper Spotlight?

Each week Sweeps features a Sweeper and donates $15 to the organization or cause of their choice. For more information on the program click here.

Ramy has selected the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America for her $15 donation.

The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding the cures for Crohn’s Disease and ulcerative colitis.

UNC graduate Ramy is a hardworking Sweeper, and now we know it runs in the family.

Ramy told us the story of her younger sister, a hard worker who had a dream to be a UNC varsity softball catcher. Her sister spent long hours after school practicing with the school’s team and travel team, and busy weekends playing in tournaments to get seen. And her dream came true — she landed herself a spot on UNC’s varsity softball roster.

“Unfortunately,” Ramy said, “it all ended abruptly when she started experiencing health problems her first semester which eventually led to the diagnosis with Crohn’s Disease. Her dream washed away, and I couldn’t do anything about it. As an older sister, that hurts.”

So, for her spotlight donation, Ramy chose the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America.

“I support CCFA because it is dedicated to research of Crohn’s and other digestive diseases, to bringing awareness of these types of diseases and to making life easier for the kids and adults suffering from them. It’s good to know that there is an organization out there making a difference for people like my sister.”

CCFA sponsors “basic and clinical research of the highest quality,” in addition to educational and support programs for patients, families, and professionals. Donations to the foundation fund these programs. Learn more about CCFA’s work and how donations help here.

Sweeps will donate $15 to the foundation on Ramy’s behalf.

Ramy, who works mostly yard work and some cleaning jobs with Sweeps, is one of our most frequent Sweepers. She told us she loves Sweeps because of the ties she feels to the community. “The connections I have made and continue to make with customers in the Triangle is another plus. Everyone is so nice and friendly!”

“It’s been a blast working for Sweeps, and I’m glad I became a Sweeper!” she said. It’s been a blast having you, Ramy, and thanks for all the great work!
