Looking for a Black Friday deal that lasts the year?
Look no further.
Follow these tips on how to reduce your monthly energy costs and stay warm this winter.
1. Adjust your thermostat.
Set it back a few degrees. For every degree you lower the temperature (between the 60- and 70-degree range), you can save up to 5% in energy costs. Also, lower it for eight hours when you sleep to save on your annual costs. Studies have proven that you sleep better in cool environments anyway!
2. Open curtains to harness heat from the sun.
Let the sun in through your south-facing windows during the day. Cover windows that don’t let in sunlight during the day and all windows at night with thick, insulating curtains.
3. Rearrange your furniture.
Bring your furniture in closer to your interior walls and away from the windows. This way, you can spend more time in the warmer parts of your house.
4. Get a space heater.
Space heaters are awesome. Many are also affordable and efficient! Save money and stay warm with a small fan heater in the bedroom or a larger heater in the living room.
5. Don’t let hot air escape.
Make sure the fire damper is always closed when the fireplace is not in use. Then, find and seal any air leaks with caulk. This will keep cool air out and warm air in.
