What is the Sweeper Spotlight?

Each week Sweeps features a Sweeper and donates $15 to the organization or cause of their choice. For more information on the program click here.

The Ability Experience

Brad, as the Philanthropy Chair of his fraternity, has the following to say about his charity of choice:

“I am the Philanthropy Chair of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity at UNC-Wilmington, and the Ability Experience is Pi Kapps very own national philanthropic organization who focuses on raising money and awareness for people with disabilities. My Fraternity has molded me into a servant leader, and I am proud to raise awareness and funds for such an important cause. Please join me and spreading awareness and raising funds.”

About Brad

What are you involved in outside of class?

Outside of class, I belong to 2 student organizations: Pi kappa Phi Fraternity, where I serve as philanthropy chairman, and the Sociology and Criminology student club at UNCW, where i serve as secretary. I also am busy with work to earn money for my college education that I largely have to pay on my own, which isn’t ideal but it is a great experience and has built my level of responsibility to where it is today.

What are you studying, and why?

Major: Criminology
I am studying to become a police officer. I’ve dreamed of this career since a young age and I’ve never stopped. Oddly, I have three minors, but all 3 spark my interest, and I believe can also help me in post-college life.
Minors: Entreprenership, Psychology, and Sociology

Where do you think you’ll be in five years?

In 5 years, I hope to be a police officer in a great law enforcement agency. Also, I hope to own my own business and take what I’ve learned entrepreneurially during college and apply it. Not sure where I will be living yet, but everything will fall into place.

Why are you a Sweeper?

Originally, I signed up because my older brother was doing sweeps jobs. Almost 3 years later I’m still doing jobs every now and then. I love the flexibility, gaining valuable odd job experience, gaining customer service skills, and meeting and connecting with a lot of different people in my community.
