Nicole does it all — as a Sweeper, she cleans, works events, and does yard work. As a student, she studies psychology and history, and makes time to work at Campbell University’s writing center. And beyond that, she has another part-time job in addition to working Sweeps jobs. When she’s not busy with all of those things, she makes time for intramural sports and hanging out in hammocks.

In five years, Nicole wants to work in the child psychology field. “I hope to become a child behavioral therapist or a child life specialist after graduate school and spend time focused on behavior modification,” she told Sweeps.

We asked her what organization she wanted to donate $15 to, and she chose the American Cancer Society because of her personal connection to the illness.

“I know several people who have been diagnosed with cancer, and I know many people who have been affected by the disease,” Nicole said. “Cancer is a difficult and heartbreaking illness to fight or be around.”

The American Cancer Society supports research for breakthrough treatments, educational programs for patients and families, a 24-hour hotline for people with questions about cancer, and even free housing for patients who live too far from available treatments.

“Cancer is an overwhelming diagnosis to handle without help and support, and I believe the American Cancer Society does a great job getting involved and taking an active role in helping those affected by this disease,” Nicole said.

Nicole’s empathy reaches far beyond those she knows who have been diagnosed with cancer and affects her interactions with even her community members. She told us she loved working with Sweeps not only because of the extra money she makes, but also because of the people she’s met through it.

“The people I have met through working with Sweeps have all been very friendly and welcoming,” she said. “I love meeting new people and helping them out in any way I can, and Sweeps is an amazing way to do just that.”
